Preparing for the Boston Marathon

With Christine’s sports massage, I am now 1 minute faster per mile.
I discovered Christine after my physical therapist recommended I pursue sports massage on a regular basis for my running-related pain. I had hit a plateau with both my speed and distance, unable to push my pace or progress longer than 8-10 miles without activity-stopping pain. Given that I had already committed to running the Boston Marathon in approximately three months, pulling back on my training was not an option for me.
Christine spent our first visit really getting to understand my issues and goals. It was such a relief to find someone who did not just tell me to stop running (which seems to be the answer for 90% of the professionals I had seen in the past), but felt that getting me pain-free was completely attainable. Within the first two visits, I was able to easily push through my mileage limitations and completely enjoy running once again.
After a month, I tested my new found mobility on a long run. Without looking at my watch once, I ran at what I found to be a comfortable pace. Imagine my shock when I discovered that my pace was now 1 minute per mile faster than when I had started my sessions, without any additional perceived exertion or training! My form had improved tremendously, allowing for not only painless runs but faster ones as well.
I am now less than two weeks out from Boston and am feeling stronger and healthier than I ever have. I don’t believe that any of this would have been possible without Christine’s help and support. I plan on continuing maintenance with her as I recover from the race and prepare for another. I highly recommend her services to anyone feeling like they are physically “stuck”; she has helped me more than I could have ever imagined possible!

Results-Achieved-Massage

The Results I’ve Achieved are Amazing!

For much of my adult life I had been active playing golf, hiking and walking. This was especially true after my retirement at age 62 in 2010. However, I also had back and hip stiffness, sore knees and sore leg muscles. I constantly used ibuprofen, heat patches and compression support during and after these activities.
The real wake up call to improve my fitness occurred in August 2017 when I had to stop a golf round because I was so stiff and sore I could not complete a golf swing. Bad news for someone who loves the game!
I realized at that moment that I was active but not fit. It was time (actually past time) to make physical fitness my top priority if I wanted to have an active lifestyle in my 70’s and beyond. In September, 2017 I developed an action plan to improve my physical fitness that included the following:
  • Sports massage therapy
  • Fitness program to improve cardio, strength, balance and flexibility
  • Diet and nutrition changes
I was successful in finding a fitness center and starting diet changes. However, I felt the key to success was developing an ongoing relationship with a sports massage therapist so I could maximize my efforts with my fitness program.
I Googled sports massage therapist near me and found Christine’s website. I called Christine and a week later I had my initial appointment. Within minutes of talking with her she noticed I was out of alignment when I stood and upon further examination she noted how tight all of my muscles were.
She also discussed how various muscles related to one another. I knew right away that I had the experienced sports massage therapist that could help me improve my physical condition.
For the first 6 months I met with Christine weekly. After that time we had a session every other week. Since December 2018 I have had a session monthly. My advice to people starting to work on their physical conditioning is to stay with it. I experienced various levels of pain during my initial sessions. This is going to happen because Christine is working muscle groups that are weak or have been used incorrectly. Eventually the pain lessens and goes away as your muscles gain strength and flexibility.
Results:
The results I have achieved are amazing! I have lost 23 pounds, decreased my waist size by 2 inches, improved my cardio, strength, balance and flexibility. At age 71 I’m in the best physical condition of my life and only 15 pounds more then when I was 18. The constant use of ibuprofen, heat patches and compression support are no longer needed.
Thanks Christine!

Mountain-Climbing-Marathons-Massage

Low Back Tightness & Calf Pain
from Mountain Climbing & Marathons

My initial visit was to address lower lumbar tightness and a soleus strain agitation from a previous injury that returned after a recent mountain climbing trip. Christine asked several questions about my athletic history, daily routines and overall general health. I also noticed that she was very observant to my stride when I first walked in and posture when standing around during general conversation.
Our plan was to release tension, improve flexibility and mobility and implement simple exercises as corrective actions that would allow my muscles to re-adapt and release themselves during healing period.
Christine explained the purpose of several simple exercises and daily routines that when I followed my body responded quickly and experienced a rather quick recovery; i.e.; especially when preparing for Philadelphia marathon. Additionally,(in my case) she explained how various leg muscles are all interconnected, an area that I was not familiar with. This education lesson now allows me to better understand my body, including certain pain-points and tension. I now have a good idea of root cause and what technique to follow to reduce that pain or tension.
Although we followed a weekly plan, she targeted certain areas that needed more care than others need and recommended other treatments such as kinesiology taping and compression floss bands (highly recommended).
I never felt rushed during my therapy sessions and every visit (over 10), was different than the last. In my experience, Christine is very knowledgeable, focused and interested in helping my body and mind come together to meet their goals. For me, there is no better feeling when receiving massage/mobility treatment after a day’s work or post-marathon recovery.

Frozen-Shoulder-Tennis-Massage

Great Results - Frozen Shoulder Massage Success!

My wife received successful massage therapy from Christine Eckery for her shoulder and she suggested I see Christine. For nearly four months I had pain in my right shoulder, particularly playing tennis. So, within the last month, I scheduled a massage therapy session with Christine.
In my first session Christine evaluated my condition and conducted a thorough examination of me. She clearly explained why I was experiencing pain and how that pain could be relieved or ‘unblocked’.
My tightness throughout much of my body reflected the regular weight lifting and cardio exercise I do. Christine loosened my tight muscles and worked on giving me greater flexibility.
In my second session, within a week thereafter, Christine specifically worked on my shoulder, and so unblocked it that I felt wonderful.
Since then I have returned to tennis, playing several times a week, and I have not experienced any shoulder pain.
In addition to obtaining great results for me, Christine’s method of therapy was very educational. She explains what she is finding as to my condition, what she intends to do about it, and inquires how I feel as she engages in her therapy.
At the conclusion, she gave me specific exercises to maintain the pain-free condition that she had created in my shoulder. She even came out to the parking lot at the end of the session, with additional ideas for stretches and exercises.
Following my successful therapy, I gave her name to a friend of mine who has had foot problems so severe that he has not played tennis for 6 months. After 2 sessions, he is now playing with us weekly.

Cycling Accident Relief - Sports Massage

After a life-changing cycling accident, Christine was able to provide me with relief that I was unable to obtain through conventional medicine, specifically orthopedists, chiropractors and a physical therapy program. In addition to Christine’s hands-on expertise, she gave me the confidence and counsel to move forward in my healing process physically, mentally and emotionally. Thanks to Christine I have returned to work and to my athletic endeavors. I can highly recommend Christine with the utmost confidence.

Immediate Results – Running, Golfing, Cycling

Christine has a very deep understanding of biomechanics and the how the muscles of the body are structured and impact movement. I went to her with three issues, calf cramping and pain while running, lack of hip rotation negatively impacting my golf swing, and neck pain when cycling. Very quickly she identified a variety of tight joints and muscles as well as some poor posture habits. Once we began treatment the results were immediate and I have realized incremental improvement with every session I have with her. I highly recommend Christine’s services.

Found Relief – TMBW is the Only Massage Therapist

I have been a hairstylist for almost 20 years, so my whole body is completely destroyed. Christine is the only massage therapist that I’ve ever found relief with. I hate to call her that because she is just SO much more.
If you’re looking for a fru-fru massage, don’t bother. She helps those of us who have actual issues. My shoulders are an absolute mess and when she works on them I can actually sleep at night. She helps to correct the problem and gives you exercises and tips on how to prevent your issues from getting worse. She has me wear shorts and a sports bra to my massages because she puts me into some crazy positions and makes you kinda “work with her” to allow your muscles to release. Christine is awesome!

Christine-Massage-Healer

Christine is the Definition of a Healer

Christine is the definition of a Healer. I was referred to Christine when I was considering changing careers due to neck problems from leaning over clients and working with my hands. I had pulled something or pinched a nerve twice over the past 6 months causing me not to be able to move my neck making work virtually impossible.
Within minutes of my first appointment with Christine, she seemed to be decoding my body positioning, posture, and movements explaining why and how my neck problems developed.
Through the work that we did during my treatments (even after the first one!) and the home exercises she taught me to do I have not had the same problems again. I now have my husband going and recommend Christine to everyone who mentions they’re in pain to me (which is everyone these days).
She is a Master at understanding the human body, how the body holds pain and how to release it. I am so grateful, I owe my ability to work to her.
Thank you Christine!

Intuition-Body-Wisdom-Gift-to-Heal

Her Intuition & Body Wisdom is a Great Tool

After many experiences with massage therapists, I was reluctant to believe that any would be able to help my fibromyalgia pain. Then I was in an auto accident and my chiropractor prescribed bodywork and massage

Christine’s technique turned out to be totally different and that difference not only helped in my auto accident recovery, it also created an awareness and recovery from the fibromyalgia.

Her intuition and body wisdom is a great tool for recreating the perceptions we have of our pain. I highly recommend Christine’s work to anyone who has tried other therapies without results. She has the gift to heal.

Connecting Mind & Body Key for Healing

I started seeing Christine for bi-lateral foot pain. I had tried numerous doctors, chiropractors, pills and stretches with no improvement. A friend recommended me to her as they had experienced foot pain also.

The first thing she did was a body/mind scan. She is very intuitive and always can read where I am physically and emotionally. Connecting the mind and body together has been the key that Christine has taught me for healing.

Traditionally one would think of a massage as painful to get results but not true at all with Christine. She has an amazing touch. I am finally well on my way to being pain free.

Tennis Ham Injury - Christine Made the Difference

I injured my hamstring playing tennis. I tried Physical Therapy, but it didn’t seem to improve my condition. What made the difference – working with Christine, The Mind Body Whisperer. Christine’s work helped me regain confidence and return to physical activity and best of all, I was pain free.

I tell all my friends, when they complain of pain or muscular injury, to do themselves the favor and make an appointment. Your body will thank you, because she IS the Mind Body Whisperer.

First-Pain-Free-Yoga

I Had My First Pain-Free Yoga Class in Years!

Just when I was afraid I might be reaching another plateau, I met Christine Eckery, an orthopedic massage therapist. Don’t expect a nice relaxing spa massage – I hesitate to even call it massage. This is an interactive working session where Christine, as the therapist, will treat your muscles, joints, and connective tissue to find where the issues are, then she will “massage” the specific spot to “melt” or move the tissue into a better position for a new habit.

Christine has an amazing sense of where pinches and energy blockages are, but you are an active participant in her detective work. So listen to your body, react to her manipulations, and communicate back to get the best results. Often tender spots are found where you don’t even know they exist, and her working with them can unlock what seems to be an unrelated area.

For instance, Christine has spent lots of time trying to reset my ankles and calves. Apparently, my years of ballet “turnout” have caused me to roll out on my foot, which causes me to not push off evenly when I walk, which causes me to have a twist in my sacrum, which causes my hamstrings to tighten, which causes my back to compensate – and ouch! The ankle bone is truly connected to the back bone! Just like the kids’ song!

Next she moved on to my neck, forearm, and hamstrings for similar detecting, apply massage therapy techniques, and retraining. In addition to her massage therapy work to get my muscles to relax and relearn a new way, she also gave me exercises to strengthen the complimentary muscles to help retrain the new pattern. Christine’s orthopedic massage therapy techniques [along with chiropractic adjustments from Dr. Scott Rosenthal] have worked together with a special synergy. And their spirituality and caring, which is sorely lacking in most healthcare providers, add immensely to the holistic healthcare they provide.

A couple of weeks ago, I had my first pain-free yoga class in years! It was a very emotional moment when I realized that I went through the whole class without struggling with ever-present pain. It is indeed strange to realize how much pain I had put up with on a daily basis and had learned to ignore – until it was gone!

Instrumental in Reconnecting my Mind and Body

Her soothing touch and powerful insight has restored my “self” to its rightful place.

This past year has been a challenge to the inner strength of my core being. I have had good reasons to be out of balance and needed guidance and support to allow the positive energy to surround me again.

Christine’s hands and knowledge have been instrumental in reconnecting my mind and body to operate as one again. She has a keen sense of what is going on as soon as I walk into the room, and she begins to focus on that immediately. In addition, she has given me some warm advice on dealing with challenging relationships, which have proven to be more than effective. Christine makes ” The Mind Body Whisperer ” very true to it’s name.

More Therapeutic

I met Christine when she was giving quick massages at my workplace. I started going to her because of the look she got in her eye when I said my posture was beyond her being able to help. The woman is determined, and works hard! The massages I’ve gotten from her were more therapeutic than relaxing (she gave me homework!), but I imagine she’ll do plain relaxing if you want that.

Raises-the-Bar

Her Orthopedic Massage Raises the Bar

Christine’s massage therapy approach is one of restorativeness and compassion. My background…. I have practiced yoga for 30 or so years and regularly – about 3 times a week – worked out in the gym. Along the way, I have also worked with physical therapists many times.

While benefiting greatly from each, Christine’s practice has helped me achieve even greater gains. In my search to address health issues, I am also pleased that I have gotten less pain and more flexibility – without any prescription drugs – from Christine’s work.

Christine’s orthopedic massage work raises the bar on the progress that I have made through other practices. I am spreading the good news to my friends and family about Christine’s practice and the work she does.

Pain-Free-Patterns

Helped Me Loosen Holding Patterns Keeping from PainFree

I started seeing Christine Eckery 3 months ago. My chief complaint was low back pain and leg pain, especially after horseback riding. The back pain is due to a herniated disc at L4-L5 which I have had since 2005. The leg pain is exacerbated by tight muscles and joints – which limits my mobility.

Christine has helped me to loosen up some of the holding patterns that have been preventing me from being pain free. Her approach is very caring and focused. She really drills down and gets a lot of feedback from you and is able to hone in on exactly which muscles are causing the problem.

One method she uses is called Active Isolated Stretching. With this method, she has been able to help me make significant gains in my range of motion. I have been able to move my leg to a much wider point that I had previously.

Christine gives you a lot of feedback while she’s working with you. We have been making progress loosening up my hip flexor and hip capsule joint. She even found areas lower in my leg that I didn’t know were tight and were contributing to the tightness in my hip flexor joint. Her approach is different than any other therapist I have been to and seems to be very effective.

Extreme-Pain-Reduced

Extreme Pain Reduced with Muscle Massage

I met Christine in an auto repair shop waiting room. I was in extreme pain and waiting for my car was not a pleasant experience. Over 6 weeks before I had landed in the emergency room with one of the worst pains in my life. The pain was in my right lower leg. The ER staff had determined I did not have a broken leg or blood clot and sent me home to figure out where else to turn. By the time I met Christine I had been to my personal care physician, an orthopedic doctor and a neurosurgeon. I have a scheduled appointment with a neurologist, but had to wait over two months for that appointment. I saw no end for the pain and was trying to live life in extreme pain each day. I was using prescription pain killers often and it wasn’t the way I wanted to live. My life was down to going to work and coming home to sit and do nothing.

Christine and I started a conversation and she gave me some great thoughts on what might be going on with my leg and what as a massage therapist she could to help lower my leg pain. I agreed to meet with her for a massage to see if she in fact would help the pain level. After that first hour and a half visit I started to feel some change. I continued to see her on a weekly basis for the next two months. I have seen a marked improvement in the pain level and I have learned ways to overcome bad habits that could be causing the problem. Although I’m not yet 100% better I can now walk without depending on crutches or a cane for short distances. I can again go shopping in the supermarket without only walking down one or two isles and having to leave. Although I still depend on a cane outside my home I can walk slowly around my office without the cane but need it for any short distance walking – to and from my car at work, grocery shopping, doing daily activities.

I am a full believer in what Christine is doing and look forward to the day when I will be pain free.
