The shoulder-to-arm joint is the most mobile joint of the body.
If you think about it – we have two ball and socket joints in our bodies…
– one is our leg-to-hip-joint
– one is the arm-to-shoulder capsule joint
So, Here’s the experiment…
TRY THIS with YOUR SHOULDER – Place your hand flat against your leg and now Raise your arm in an upward arc. (This ball-and-socket joint has incredible range of motion.)
* First stop – Raise your arm 20º away from your leg
* Next stop – Raise your arm 45º away from your leg
* Next stop – Raise your arm 90º away from your leg, square to the floor
* Final stop – Raise your arm above your head – an 180º arc away from your standing leg
NOW TRY THIS with YOUR LEG – While standing, Raise your leg in an upward arc (Limited ball-and-socket joint range of motion)
* First stop – Raise your leg 20º from standing
* Next stop – Raise your leg 45º from standing
* Next stop – Raise your leg 90º from standing
* Final stop – Raise your leg 180º from standing
Bet you can’t raise your leg with the same range of motion.
