Do You Have a 42-lb Head?
As your head sits above your spine, the weight of your skull and brain is about 12 lbs.
Yet, a curious thing happens, if your neck comes forward, for example,
-
to get a better view of your computer screen or
-
a better view of the traffic,
the dynamics and in particularly, the effective weight of your head changes dramatically.
The reason???
As your neck comes forward, the weight of your head loses the support of your spine. AND, gravity has a greater pull on the weight of your head.
So, as your head comes forward away from your spine, the effective weight of your head increases dramatically.

As your neck comes forward 1″, the effective weight of your head increases from 12 lbs. to 32 lbs. AND
As your neck comes forward 2″, the effective weight of your head increases from 12 lbs. to 42 lbs.
