Knowledge = Imagination

My son is now at the half-way mark at Marine boot camp. I'm excited for him and proud of him - and yes, I have every mother's bias for my boy. ☺

I watch the videos about his training and am already in awe about his upcoming Combat Fitness Tests and even more so, The Crucible - which is 54 hours to traverse 48 miles with 45 lbs of gear, completing 36 warrior stations and 29 team building exercises all on 6 hours of sleep and a mere 4 MRE's. Wow.

At my athletic prime, this all would have been a challenge. And while it would take me awhile to get back to that prime, I'm still vying for a chance to rappel down their 75 foot tower. I really think that they should have a Parent's Day just before boot camp graduation - I love rappelling and their tower looks like great fun! ☺

I've also had a lot of fun pulling together Monday Motivation thoughts for this week. The following 3 are from Einstein and all, in my mind, tie in together. The quote is bolded and then I've added my 2 cents.

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” ~ Einstein

In business and in life, it seems to me that imagination keeps us from getting locked in a corner and is key to finding optimum routes of process, execution and success. Imagination is also key to creativity and unique solutions.

“Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” ~ Einstein

I love the idea of this one -

AKA If we don’t know our limits,

  1. We are unable to see our personal boundaries and
  2. We are unable to have the perspective to create a vision of our own possibilities beyond our current "limits."

Yet, once we take time for reflective thought, our limits become our springboards to new possibilities and new realities.

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” ~ Einstein

I'm thoughtful of the phrase "a very persistent one" - as well, of course, of reality being a mere illusion. It seems to me that if we lack imagination and a willingness to see beyond our current limits and our presumed boundaries, our current reality is a persistent one. However, with imagination and an understanding of the limits of our current reality, we can create a new vision of new realities which we can, in turn, create with determination and dedication - and of course, joy in the process.
